Rising Consumer Concerns Regarding Data Misuse

Data misuse is a large concern for the American public, and this rather negative outlook is healthy considering the circumstances. After recent scandals like the Yahoo! data breach in 2016 and Facebook’s data-sharing deal in 2018, the public is ready for some protective measures.

Meet Tori, Quixote Group’s Newest Team Member

I’m a firm believer that life comes full circle. I recently watched an old home video where I was hosting radio and TV shows. The topics ranged from school updates and weather, to new music, movies that are “must sees,” and what the hottest celebrities are up to (thanks, Tiger Beat Magazine). Although it was funny to watch, I realized that being a storyteller is something I’ve been doing since I was young.

Meet Kristen, Quixote Group’s Summer Intern

My name is Kristen Koch and I am a rising senior at Elon University, although I am a native to Kennebunkport, Maine. As a Communications Fellow, I am pursuing my bachelor’s degree in strategic communications with minors in business administration and Spanish. Quixote Group’s Intern Talks XD

You Need XD!

Do you ever see a website, social media post, or billboard, and you just don’t get it? You shrug and think “maybe this wasn’t for me.” Maybe it was designed for you, but the creator’s strategy failed because they didn’t practice good XD.

Whether you hear it called User Experience (UX), Experience Design (XD), or Service Design, it’s all the same concept, and it could be the most important methodology for marketing professionals to understand. XD prioritizes embracing the audience, discovering what they need, and designing materials with a customer-centric approach. This strategy works for design as well as communication and PR. Approaching communications as a “user interaction experience,” rather than audience reception, leads to a message being better received. In XD, designers follow a Design Thinking process to create material for users. Whether you are writing an article, modifying a website, or designing business cards, you can use Design Thinking to enhance your product and better tell your story.

Meet our spring intern Julie

My name is Julie Hildebrand and I am an artist, nature fanatic, and Guilford College senior. I am very excited to be an intern at Quixote Group and explore the world of PR. When I’m not at Quixote Group or in class, I am working with the creative team in Guilford’s marketing department designing templates for social media posts and sharpening my Adobe skills.

An Unlikely Path to the Perfect Internship

Had you told me three years ago that I’d be spending the summer before my senior year in college interning at a marketing and PR firm in Greensboro, I would’ve given you a bewildered look akin to the face the office dogs give me when I don’t share my lunch. I really can’t remember a time in my life when I wasn’t dead set on becoming a veterinarian – except when I dressed up as a waitress that one Career Day in first grade. I was that kid enchanted by the childhood dream. Then freshman year hit: multiple choice science exams and college “weed out” classes. Spraying me with Roundup couldn’t have gotten rid of me faster! Consequently, over the last three years at UNC-Chapel Hill, I’ve spent time searching for that next passion and discovered my love for marketing (and its lack of tiny bubble-riddle exams) along the way.

IHOB: International House of Buzz

I remember first hearing about it on the radio. Right before a commercial break, the DJ teased that IHOP was changing its “P” to a “B,” and that he’d have more in a few minutes. Normally, I’d change the station to something that had music, but I was curious. As a marketing and PR professional, I naturally thought that this was a massive rebranding effort. I wanted to learn more!

Erika Reflects on Time as Quixote Group Intern

Not all internships are about getting coffee and completing “busy work” day in and day out. As the Spring 2018 intern at Quixote Group, I learned that, at least here, intern life is very different from that. Instead of serving as the catchall for busy work you are simply another member of the team, experiencing what life in public relations is really like, ever changing with no two days the same.

As a strategic communication major at High Point University, valuable, real world experience was exactly what I was hoping to find. I was fortunate enough to work with several clients during my time with Quixote Group and see how projects develop from start to finish, all while sharpening my own skills. With an eye for detail and a standard of excellence, I am driven by my competitive nature and desire to exceed expectations, making fast paced days and unpredictable challenges the perfect atmosphere for me.

My passion for public relations has inspired me to continue my education through High Point University’s B.A. to M.A. program in strategic communication over the next year. Being enrolled in both graduate and undergraduate classes does not leave too much free time, but when the stars align to allow it you can find me exploring local coffee shops, cooking or fitting in a quick run. I prefer a busy lifestyle and experiencing all that I can, which might explain my love for working in public relations.

Hello! My name is Mikayla Browne and I am the fall 2017 intern at Quixote Group. I am a senior at High Point University, majoring in human relations with a minor in marketing. I was born in Boston, Mass., and raised in Concord, N.C., but would love to make my way back up north soon.

I became a marketing minor after taking an Intro PR and Marketing course my sophomore year. I enjoyed the class so much that I decided to take a couple more marketing classes and by the end of my sophomore year, I had declared it as my minor. Some of the reasons I like PR and marketing so much is because there is always something new to work on and every day is different. I would consider myself a workaholic because I love being busy and having a to-do list that’s a mile long, which is why the PR and marketing world is a perfect fit for me.
