My name is Kristen Koch and I am a rising senior at Elon University, although I am a native to Kennebunkport, Maine. As a Communications Fellow, I am pursuing my bachelor’s degree in strategic communications with minors in business administration and Spanish. My goal is to work as an account coordinator at a public relations agency and eventually own my own firm. Who knows where that firm will be, or where I’ll even be a year from now, but I can’t wait to find out!
My parents like to joke that I “major in talking” which, while true to an extent, is not the reason why I decided to study strategic communications. I always knew that I wanted to pursue a career where I could help people, but I didn’t quite know how to do that effectively. When I first toured Elon and learned about their strategic communications program, I knew that I had found my niche.
I’ve also interned with Allied Integrated Marketing in Boston, Massachusetts, and the nonprofit 2018 Ice Palace in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Through both of these experiences, I got to work and learn in the public relations industry while meeting a handful of mentors along the way. However, my internship with Quixote Group is the first to offer hands-on agency work for clients in a variety of industries. For that, I am extremely excited.
Like any college student, my life doesn’t exclusively revolve around work. In my free time, I enjoy running, going to the beach, doing yoga, and writing for my travel blog. Being as social as I am, I also love spending time with new and old friends whenever I can. More than anything, I’m excited to be back in North Carolina this summer to be near so many people who are close to my heart.
